Malshej Waterfall (Pune)

Malshej ghat, with average height of 700 meters. It is a mountain pass descending to the Konkan from the Desh is situated in Pune district near the borders of Thane and Ahmednagar districts. It is at a distance of 119 km north of Pune and 130 km from Mumbai towards northeast and 85 kms from Kalyan. It certainly cannot get more picturesque than this! This is the usually the kind of comment you would hear from tourists who flock to the Malshej Ghat once the monsoon has taken a firm grip over Maharashtra. The verdant landscape shouldered by the majestic ranges of the Sahyadris makes the entire setting a feast for the eyes. And never mind if you get soaked through and through. That’s the whole fun!
Malshej Ghat is often referred to as a rain traveller’s abode. In fact, many an intrepid traveller has always made it a point to have Malshej Ghat on the annual itinerary simply because the place offers a view that has no parallel. Here, the Sahyadri mountain range towers above everything else, dominating and influencing the environment, nature, history, economics and ecology of the state. The region is a trekker’s paradise with its extremely rugged and rocky hills on which you will come across forts, temples and ancient rock-cut caves.
At Malshej Ghat, it is just nature and you in perfect communion. The heavy downpour, the morning fog blanketing out everything else, the slight chill in the air and a lush green carpet as far as the eye can see is what makes this a perfect landscape. Mist swirls up from the valley and envelopes the tourist resort of MTDC while the clouds unfurl and the waterfalls cascade down in all their glory. While the ghat area is often dry through the year, the rains spark off a miraculous change in just a few days. The streams and ponds begin to gurgle afresh and flora and fauna comes to life as if from a spell of hibernation.
If you are travelling from Pune towards Nashik, you will come across Narayangaon and then reach Alephata, where you can take a breather before you proceed further towards Malshej Ghat. Even as you drive on the winding road towards the pristine ghat, there will be opportunities to pause along the way and absorb the rolling landscape and feel the surge of non-polluted air rushing through your body. For those interested in ornithology, the drive will also offer a chance to observe many birds flitting through the skies and camping on the mud flats.

One thing that has taken a serious toll because of Pune is my City. Though I should have been more regular in posting Last Saturday I  was traveling to Mumbai from Pune and i wrote a post on my way. See I told you my blog took a serious toll; it took days for me to post this.
I was traveling from Pune to Mumbai for some work. The weather is amazing, as soon as he drove out of Pune the scenic beauty makes you forget all the tensions of life. The closer I am getting to Lonavala the darker the sky is getting. I can see clouds dancing on the top of hills alongside the express highway. I want to be in those clouds and feel them on my face. As I am writing this down it has started to drizzle and wind is blowing which is making the rain dance. The falling rain, the flowing wind and the green covered hills in the backdrop, Wow it’s so beautiful.I have just reached Lonavala and my bus is already traveling through the clouds. I just noticed that someone has painted the walls on the side of the road in shades of blue, some random images, some waves, some plain figures, but it’s looking good in this rain. I looked on the right and I could see the whole khopoli (I think that is khopoli can be some place else as well) getting wet in rain, it’s looking really amazing. Just after passing Lonavala there is a campus of Sinhagadh Institutes, they are placed at such a beautiful location; they have buildings spread on a long spread out hill. I always envy these students; they get to live at such a beautiful place.I am approaching Panvel, this place has come up amazingly well in last some years. When I first traveled from Mumbai from Pune i was amazed to while looking at development of Mumbai and the infrastructure.I am at Airoli and my next stop will be Dadar.. I am sure all the Commuters travelling from Pune to Mumbai must be excited to see the beauty on the Express way on both the sides. Pune Mumbai route is one of the busiest route in India thus, we could say its the heartbeat between Pune and Mumbai.
Travelling to Mumbai from Pune has lot many options like Shared rides, Buses, trains and also the flights.
We will be coming out with other blog soon so stay tuned.
